Senior Scientist in Low Energy, High Flux Accelerator Physics and Particle Detection.
We seek an accomplished Senior Scientist with deep expertise in low energy, high flux accelerator physics, and particle detection. The chosen candidate will spearhead our experimental research program focused on nuclear fusion energy production in low-dimensional matter.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the specification, procurement, and installation of a commercial high flux ion accelerator system, ensuring capabilities of milliampere current at 10’s kV
Architect and establish a high-vacuum-capable target endstation tailored for ultra-thin and 2D material membrane targets. This design should prioritize:
Prompt and dosimetric nuclear reaction product measurement
Energy loss channel detection for determination of Q in novel fuel configurations
Precision beam analysis
In situ target monitoring
Residual gas monitoring
Required Experience & Qualifications:
Extensive hands-on experience with particle detection techniques.
Proficiency in working with high-voltage vacuum systems.
Demonstrated ability in statistical data analysis relevant to experimental physics.
Expertise in vacuum and high voltage experimental design, construction, and operations.
Solid background in project management, showcasing the ability to lead and execute complex research projects.
Personal Attributes:
Innovative and forward-thinking.
High levels of energy and enthusiasm for experimental research.
Strong collaborative spirit, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Exceptional problem-solving skills and a keen eye for detail.
The candidate must be highly creative and innovative, have experience in experimental design, and have proven scientific or engineering project management experience. The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in physics or engineering (or a related discipline) and have at least three years of research team leadership experience, preferably in an industrial setting.
The candidate should note that, as a privately funded and managed institute, Thunderchild Fusion is committed to meeting a clearly defined set of experimental goals at the outset. The candidate should be able to set targets and deadlines and work in an organized, proactive manner.
